Nothing
is wasted! Even the smallest shards are reused, first in sun-catchers
then mosaics and finally re-melted in the bead hut to form the spun
beads that have become famous as being the only glass beads made
in East Africa, where the famous Masai beadwork comes from. The
recycled bead shower curtains are popular and can you believe this
- keep out mosquitoes! The place is situated in a |
 |
particularly dry spot of the semi-arid plains south of Nairobi just
beyond the National Park. Animals, wild and tame are everywhere.
Giant pigs, camels, horses, mule and donkeys, ostriches, Rottweilers
and Dachshunds, the Egyptian Vulture (the Kitengela mascot), and
the odd leopard or wailing hyena, not forgetting the river pythons
that regularly feed on the poultry all abound. As we always say
“Never a dull day!” |
